Morning Tea: Don’t Use AI As An Excuse To Sweatshop Pop Culture

Posted on June 6, 2024June 24, 2024 By Sammy Younan No Comments on Morning Tea: Don’t Use AI As An Excuse To Sweatshop Pop Culture

AI Is The New Homework: Want some (more) clickbait in your life? Check this out from Variety: Ashton Kutcher says you’ll soon be able to “render a whole movie” using AI.

I get it…the AI headline is subpar clickbait so the usual people complain in the usual ways: work that online brand for likes, yo!

Ashton Kutcher and Eric Schmidt were at the Berggruen Salon in Los Angeles talking about AI from regulation to human relationships and of course AI’s impact on filmmaking.

What so stood out from his many observations is this comment: “What’s going to happen is there is going to be more content than there are eyeballs on the planet to consume it.”

Proliferation is a legit AI concern. It takes time to sit with a movie, you gotta live with an album. You can’t inhale a book in 2 minutes.

Many people express this modern dumb-stress they can’t keep up. Fool…you ain’t supposed to keep up. Why would you willingly sign up for an online sweatshop?!

You go and you consume pop culture at your own pace. FOMO and internet be damned. (Though the pace doesn’t matter; you’ll never be on top of all of it anyways. You know how many morons celebrate racing through a new season of Daredevil or Stranger Things by being the first to finish it? Here’s a cookie: congratulations you’ve just publicly branded yourself as a loser.)

That dumb-stress is why the Marvel movies created burn-out. Polygon recently confirmed: Marvel quietly admits there’s too much MCU homework. Like, no guff!

So it’s not just the unwieldy proliferation from human and AI creators…it’s the high burn out rate from people who don’t know how to manage their pop culture.

Again: Marvel. Burn out is gonna cost creators so much. Creators need to slow down and effectively create in a cycle that works best for them. (TV shows have a hiatus between seasons, no different than a farmer letting the ground lie fallow.)

And pop culture consumers need to do the same thing. We’re only gonna focus on burn out as a parent or as an employee, common clickbaity identities. But as pop culture fans…burn out is just as real. And AI is gonna make that worse. Chill, make tea and enjoy falling behind right now.

Otherwise expect a future brimming with stress.
