Trial By Trailer: Alien 3 struggled (Fincher!), Alien 4 floundered; Prometheus was a disaster: just tasteless inferior filmmaking.
And here we are: Alien 7. I didn’t bother with Alien: Covenant.
All this to say…I dunno about Alien: Romulus.
This is also a major red flag: “Set between the events of Alien (1979) and Aliens (1986), the story concerns a group of young space colonists who, while scavenging a derelict space station, come face to face with the most terrifying life form in space.”
This is the 7th movie, 9th if you include the 2 Predator crossovers yet I’m only supposed to focus on 1 movie? All that rich history and that world building is eliminated for…this? No wonder the trailer concludes with Rain sayings: “Are you sure you wanna do this?”
I’m not at all invested in these characters; they’re Alien’s Finn and Rey. So, really this Alien movie asks me to sit around and watch em perish.
Looks like I’ll be rooting for the Xenomorph.
Only In Cinemas: August 16, 2024.
Sammy Verdict: It’s a Netflix watch.
