On July 3, 1991 Terminator 2 was released.
James Cameron partnered with effects artist Stan Winston who with a budget of $150,000 crafted this truly teaser released almost a year before Terminator 2. I’m not sure if I’ve seen this before.
(It’s always fascinating to go back and see the trailers for monumental movies. I just watched the Rocky movies; I dunno when or where I woulda seen a trailer. Same with Superman I and II. I just…watched em.)
I typically don’t get verklempt with movie endings but yo: Terminator 2 when Arnold “died” that hit me right in the guts and the nuts.
That was losing Optimus Prime all over again.
Arnold’s death truly felt like the 80s were over and it was time to man up in the 90s.
(Prime died in The Transformers: The Movie in 1986…Arnold perished in 1991…for a kid struggling to find his place in the world…that’s back to back death. That’s a loss of hope and struggling to breath in dense darkness.)
