Trial By Trailer: I saw The Flash at the local cinema but I was firmly and fully 100% out for Blue Beetle and Aquaman 2. Those are strictly streaming movies.
With Blue Beetle I’m curious to see how they (mis?)handled Ted Kord? Can’t have Blue & Gold with Jaime Reyes, right?
(Some of the New 52 Blue Beetle comics featuring Jaime Reyes are decent. If you check em out great; if not also great. For the most part Jaime Reyes is a dead end character. Currently Blue Beetle is a dead end character as well.
The best Must Read Comics were the Ted Kord issues.
The bulk of the latest DC iterations Reyes, Jessica Cruz as Green Lantern…Simon Baz too, Duke Thomas over in Batman are vapid. These are not strong characters worth the investment and support by avid readers. It’s the Jason Todd syndrome right?
His fate was sealed with 5,343 voting in favor of death, while 5,271 voted for survival. I voted for Death! And as Red Hood he became way more compelling and now; he has a distinct personality. And bonus…he gave Batman extra emotional baggage. The death was a good thing; all that hate paid off!)
Here’s the first ten minutes of the latest DCU movie. I suppose there is potential here but this is crossing over with civilians? Ted Kord shows up in the opening credits! Yeah. (Well…kinda…)
The initial Blue Beetle trailers were as bad as I expected. It’s Melissa McCarthy’s Superintelligence movie set in the DCU. I’m not feeling that.
Sammy Verdict: Still Hard Pass. I wait for a streaming date. Maybe I’ll watch it on a long flight?
