My Summer Lair Chapter #60: Have You Seen The Monuments Men?
I had a fascinating opportunity to interview producer Steve Gamester and historian James Holland just 2 of the gentlemen behind Hunting Nazi Treasure: an 8-part docuseries which premiered on October 24, 2017 at 10 p.m. EST on History Channel in Canada and in the US airs on the American Heroes Channel on May 1, 2018 at 10 p.m. EST. #SetTheVCR!
(It was surreal…I interviewed the kind gents at the Corus building in a sweet boardroom: we’re discussing all the evil Hitler and his crew unleashed while we were surrounded by Care Bears images on the walls…apparently we were in some sort of children’s tv section of the Corus building.)
Hunting Nazi Treasure is an investigative series taking viewers on a heroic search across four continents to locate valuable objects and artwork missing since the Second World War and return them to their rightful owners.
Turns out the Allies defeating Hitler was not really the end of World War II. We can’t just go “back to normal.”
Think of Hunting Nazi Treasure as a spiritual sequel to The Monuments Men…the movie with George Clooney, Bill Murray and all those actors. Sure, they returned a lot of stolen art but there are lots that have yet to accounted for…that’s where this tv show comes in.
The Hunting Nazi Treasure team is led by Robert Edsel, author of bestselling book-turned-movie The Monuments Men, and Founder and Chairman of the Monuments Men Foundation for the Preservation of Art. As you’ll see in the series they do some impressive work.
Investigative journalist Conor Woodman and Second World War historian James Holland are the other characters viewers will engage.
Hunting Nazi Treasure is a captivating adventure; an attempt to bring some closure to yet another painful chapter from World War II.
