The Sentimentalists (Mysterion & Steffi Kay) My Summer Lair 91

My Summer Lair Chapter #91: What Am I Thinking?

There’s a difference between hearing and listening. Listening is active; it’s a bold patience an act made even more daring in a time when social media encourages rampant narcissism. Everyone hears not everyone listens.

The same is true of how we see. It’s not even seeing rather it’s properly interpreting what we’re seeing. This is where Mysterion and Steffi Kay who together as The Sentimentalists excel. Mentalism is that fantastic branch of magic where it becomes even harder to know how they did it.

I’ve friends who are magicians and I’ve heard the wild and bizarre theories that people come up with to declare “I know how you did it!” Often they’re so fanciful it comes off desperate like trying to regain some dignity after being cleverly fooled. We do this all the time…like when you trip in public and you look around to see if anybody noticed that…even when surrounded by strangers.

I don’t know how mentalism works…I don’t know how Mysterion and Steffi Kay did what they did right in front of me. This is a treat to engage these powerfully creative individuals to listen to their stories and to leave the ordinary if only for a few moments.

I’m grateful people like The Sentimentalists opt for these paths…that they decided along the way to not be a teacher or an accountant or manager easy to understand gigs. It’s inspiring as much as it’s puzzling.

I want to know how it’s done and yet I also accept at face value that it is indeed just what it is. Magic. And the more magic I can inject into my life…to rattle the routines of a life measured out with coffee spoons is truly magical.

I’m so happy they came in and performed and we got to talk about all this.
