Pat Mills welcome back to My Summer Lair.
The always charming typically suspender clad Pat is the writer and director of Don’t Talk to Irene a teen movie! Yes Guy! Dude rocked Guidance couple years back at TIFF (about a highly irreverent guidance counsellor so yeah another teen movie).
This new feature is also about an outsider: “Irene is 16, fat, friendless and tired of being a loser. She’s determined that this year is going to be different—Irene is going to become a cheerleader.” Amazing.
Starring Geena Davis, Scott Thompson (YES!) and Michelle McLeod as Irene! (Michelle is freshtastic! High five for her performance!)
So good; Soul Good. Wonderfully gay (Geena Davis LOL!); lots of heart and guts and strong writing. During our talk Pat dropped a solid line that I jokingly suggested should be the movie’s tagline: “This is Me: I’m fat and I’m a cheerleader…go fuck yourself.” The beautiful anthem of every outsider; teen or otherwise.
