I dunno who Mieke is…she’s new. Mieke her debut EP was released on August 28. Ethereal in that Kate Bush, Bjork sorta way I hope we can get her into Girth for a 2016 In Session. I like new people.

Turn this up…irresistible Swedish pop!
Hard to believe she sings: “I know you feel that pop doesn’t really have a clue.” (You don’t think she means pop as in pops…dad, father etc. do you?). This pop tune is clued into my mood: wild chair dancing.

Want to feel old? TLC’s Scrubs came out in early 1999. The song is just over 15 years old. Ouch. But it’s message is true then as it is now:

Remember Jewel? I recently caught her Howard Stern interview…I was shocked…as in oh yeah Jewel. Jewel was so big back in the day and then she seemed to disappear; I’d totally forgotten about her. She’s back with a new album; but it’s this standout track that drew my attention.

Hidden Gem: Cœur de Pirate “Carry On”

At the end of August Cœur de pirate released a new album Roses…I’ve been slowly steadily working through it. One of her best and strongest.
She’s this attractive French Canadian girl…a tough and fierce package…you can’t see it in this video but on her arm she’s got this amazing tattoo of Alice in Wonderland armed with an Elgin pistol and a cutlass; met her briefly at a TIFF party couple years back and I was mesmerized by the tattoo…why does Alice have a Elgin pistol AND a cutlass? Or rather…why not?

Curious choice, yeah? I only include it as a Hidden Gem because…it works. Put it on and see how people are you move, nod their head, tap their foot. When it comes to pop music sometimes the slow wave of acceptance as the beat subtly seduces a listener it just as magical as fresh music.
