NBA Finals 2026 – Game 1 (8:30 p.m. / ABC)
The NBA Finals are where legends are made, and the season’s not over until a team is handed the Larry O’Brien Trophy. As shocking as the Thunder’s Game 7 loss is—parity is ruining the NBA; ya gotta build a dynasty…any team can win 1—the Spurs win makes it so much easier for the Knicks. Now facing the Spurs the cheap narrative the Knicks have had an “easy” path to a championship will be resurrected. It was a dumb thing to say—out loud then and it is worse to say now. Go New York, Go! Tonight, the NBA Finals opens with the Knicks on the road for tonight’s game and on Friday’s game.

SAMMY SUGGESTION: DREAMS (ANYTIME / STARZ & HOOPLA)
A powerful American socialite and an undocumented Mexican ballet dancer begin a dangerous affair in this tense, erotic drama. Fernando, a young ballet dancer from Mexico, dreams of international recognition and a life in the U.S. Believing his lover, Jennifer, a socialite and philanthropist, will support him, he leaves everything behind, narrowly escaping death in the process. However, his arrival disrupts Jennifer’s carefully curated world. She will do anything to protect both their futures–and the life she has built. It Is What It Is.

So many Americans remain weirdly obsessed with older woman/younger man relationships. I dunno if it’s connected to a smug moral superiority or it is a prudish response to sex or what but it’s so obnoxious. Why would I ever care? If you’re both over 20 and enjoying your time together: have a good time. IMDB tags Dreams with “older woman younger man relationship” and “older woman younger man sex.” Dreams follows a young man whose relationship with an older woman blurs the lines between romance, desire, ambition and fantasy…blah, blah blah. right? It’s all Facebook complicated is the cheezy pitch to viewers. But not really. Age, power and attraction…hah, hardly. Cue a George Costanza snort. This is another older lady younger man movie which continues to be a massive hang up for Americans: The Rebound, The Idea of You, the aptly name Babygirl and now Dreams. More clutching pearls over an age gap relationship where a horny lady gets a pearl necklace.

In Cold Light (Anytime / Hulu)
Fresh out of prison, Ava’s attempt to reclaim her drug operation collapses when she witnesses a brutal crime, forcing her to flee into a nightmarish underworld where allies are scarce and enemies multiply by the minute.
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: MISS YOU, LOVE YOU (ANYTIME / HBO MAX & CRAVE)
A blunt, grieving widow, Diane Patterson (Allison Janney) is forced to plan her husband’s funeral with a total stranger: her estranged son’s assistant, Jamie Simms (Andrew Rannells). As they fumble through grief and their strange, darkly funny circumstances, buried secrets and long-held resentments surface, but their partnership becomes an unlikely conduit for connection, laughter, and healing for this mother and her unexpected surrogate son.
~~~
Planning a funeral is a masterclass in unwanted emotional logistics. But doing it with a total stranger? In Miss You, Love You, Allison Janney plays the grieving widow forced to coordinate her husband’s final send-off with Jamie—the personal assistant of her estranged son. Solid set up for a tragedy. The movie trades family melodrama for a darkly funny, dialogue-driven ping-pong match of grief and resentment. It’s a bittersweet reminder that while funerals can be arranged, closure has no timetable.
Cape Fear: Limited Series (Anytime / Apple TV)
Inspired by the 1991 remake directed by Scorsese and produced by Spielberg, a storm is coming for happily married attorneys Anna and Tom Bowden when Max Cady, the notorious killer they are responsible for putting behind bars, is let out of prison – and he wants vengeance. You know everybody in this. The limited series debuts on Friday, June 5, 2026 with the first two episodes, followed by new episodes every Friday through July 31.
SAMMY SUGGESTION: LORNE (ANYTIME / PEACOCK)
Lorne Michaels is the creator of Saturday Night Live, the man who built and sustained this comedy institution for five decades. And Lorne from director Morgan Neville, is “the first ever behind-the-scenes look into the life of Lorne Michaels, the legendary creator and reluctant icon behind Saturday Night Live. While SNL is one of the most examined and celebrated shows in television history, the man who built and sustained the institution for nearly five decades has largely remained out of view.”
~~~
Inspiring news for LinkedIn Thought Leaders and TED Talkers! As you know, Lorne Michaels founded Saturday Night Live in 1975. And though he left for 5 seasons in the ‘80s; undaunted he has continued to helm this comedy start-up. So truly, a documentary on Lorne would be fascinating just to learn…The Playbook. How he navigates egos and strong personalities. How SNL’s Minimum Viable Product Dress Rehearsal starts at 8 p.m. in front of a live audience; is reviewed and revised by 11:30 p.m. How SNL ships at 11:30 p.m. on Saturdays…ready or not. It’s live. Lorne’s HR secret sauce for hiring the best and brightest talent. Indeed. A Lorne Michaelsbehind-the-scenes documentary would be Moses coming down the mountain with compelling commandments. And?! Practically, none of that is in this scintillating documentary.There’s no niche identifying or building.
There’s no 5-step framework for 50 years of cultural relevance.
There’s no repeatable formula to “optimize” your way to a legacy.
It’s all just instinct and taste.
Which has always been The Playbook.

Hoppers (Anytime / Disney+)
Saturday Morning Cartoons: Scientists have discovered how to “hop” human consciousness into lifelike robotic animals, allowing people to communicate with animals as animals. Animal lover Mabel seizes an opportunity to use the technology, uncovering mysteries within the animal world that are beyond anything she could have imagined.

SAMMY SUGGESTION: OFFICE ROMANCE (ANYTIME / NETFLIX)
Jennifer Lopez and Brett Goldstein lead a raunchy romantic comedy about a secret office romance and the trouble two workaholics get in when they start thinking with their hearts.
~~~
Office romances are generally frowned upon. And so are JLo movies. I mean…how bad can this be? Right. Is it time for Jennifer Lopez to actually make a good movie? A decent movie? I dunno if Office Romance will offer any heat or just be another Jenny From The Block HR violation.
It’s A Sin: Limited Series (Anytime / CBC Gem)
Set initially in the early 1980s (and yes named after the outstanding Pet Shop Boys single), It’s A Sin is a British TV series that addresses the HIV and AIDS epidemic that wrought destruction on London’s gay community. The five-episode mini-series depicts a decade of life starting from 1981, during which cases of the virus rapidly increase, and the wider world is eventually forced to take notice. Not as strong and as bold as Years and Years, also from Russell T. Davies (and also highly recommended viewing.) but Sin has its charms.
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: EARTH, WIND & FIRE (TO BE CELESTIAL VS. THAT’S THE WEIGHT OF THE WORLD) (ANYTIME / HBO MAX & CRAVE)
Questlove’s latest tells the story of the legendary nine-time Grammy Award-winning band Earth, Wind & Fire, tracing their genesis through late founding member Maurice White, chronicling their evolution, highs and lows, and relevance from the 1970s into the present day while exploring the deep philosophical and spiritual meaning behind their message and music.
~~~
Let’s Groove with the latest (Black) documentary from Questlove. His Devotion to music means exploring this freshtastic Boogie Wonderland. From Chicago…Earth, Wind & Fire’s dance party music infuses listeners with a Happy Feelin’ and sparks their Imagination. This isn’t a Fantasy. This Mighty Mighty HBO doc “is both a party of a film and a comprehensive record of the ups and downs for one of the most iconic bands to ever grace our stages.” (According the Tribeca blurb where it’s set to premiere as the Opening Night selection.) Like it’s September we’re all back in school: it’s time to learn about Earth, Wind & Fire…the core elements.
