My Summer Lair Chapter #83: Which Muesum Is Your Favourite?
One of the gifts of this gig is I can indulge my curiosity. I want to know how things work; it’s like hanging out with a toddler always asking why. I met Natalie Black at an FITC Toronto party and over drinks as she explained her gig at the ROM I instantly recognized that it would benefit all of us to hit the record button.
Natalie Black is an exhibition designer at the Royal Ontario Museum. To quote Spock: Fascinating.
And while this is an interview of how displays at the ROM are created and curated this is also a discussion on creativity and curiosity and how we keep those fires burning. How we learn…what questions we ask. What we wear…for example Velour Tracksuits (oh yes!) and swords.
We close by talking about science-fiction…Natalie is a charming nerd with a unique heritage which easily leads into time travel. Would you want to see the past since you’re an avid museum lass or as a sci-fi nerd would you want to jump into the future? Fun.
Presently the two ROM exhibitions we discuss are:
Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion
and
Spiders: Fear & Fascination
So out for spiders…that’s not happening. The dinosaur bones and the ROM’s Bat Cave those are always in style and worth the visit.
