My Summer Lair Chapter #317: Do You Have A Favourite Park Bench?

Welcome back Gavin Stephens to My Summer Lair.

Gavin is a stand-up comedian known for his quick wit; often his comedic style is laced with nerd references like Stan Lee cameos.

In this meandering MSL conversation we talk about being nerd vets. Indeed we’re the veterans who’ve invested in much of the IP that currently a lot of youths are flat out taking for granted. From Stars Wars to Marvel comics and more…we were early adaptors and investors in these unique worlds and freshtastic characters.

Which sounds like an old man thing to say yet it neatly fits with the themes of his latest comedy album Park Bench Ontology.

Here’s the opening clip from the comedy album. Gavin not only talks about getting older but he openly shares his adoration for park benches.

Park Bench Ontology is out now from Howl & Roar Records. It’s a witty follow up to his previous Juno nominated stand-up album All Inclusive Coma.

Now, sadly…I’m assuming you’re getting excited because this MSL guest is a comedian however…I should warn you…I dunno how much comedy we actually talk about.

We do unpack what makes a Top 5 Park Bench…you would naturally expect to hear that. But this is more like a Joe Rogan episode only (mercifully) shorter. And we do acknowledge Joe Rogan but we also get into anti-vaxxers, Andrew Schulz, liberals vs recycling, Grandpa Simpson, the elder statesmen of hip hop and Rorschach from The Watchmen. Good Gravy; that’s gotta meet some sort of podcast benchmark. See what I did there? Park Bench…benchmark…magic, yo!

This is a free-ranging conversation between two friends who grew up in Scarborough. And you as the listener are invited. Press play and let’s hang out.
