My Summer Lair Chapter #94: Fear, eh?
From their website:
“The Blood in the Snow Canadian Film Festival is a unique and imaginative showcase of contemporary Canadian horror, genre, and underground cinema, that exists to challenge social boundaries, explore artistic taboos, and support and exhibit independent Canadian genre media artists.”
Whew. That’s a lot…let’s slowly unpack that. I’m joined with Festival Coordinator Jen Gorman and Festival Director & Founder: Kelly Michael Stewart.
I’ve known Jen for a few years now and she’s a treat…I always enjoy getting a few adult beverages and getting into it with her when it comes to horror. She insists she came late to the genre but she’s totally made up for lost time; her knowledge and passion are infectious good clean fun.
As for Festival Director Kelly Michael Stewart his knowledge beyond just the genre extends to the business side of the house. As creators grapple with the platforms from Shudder to Netflix Kelly wrestles with the future deftly interpreting tea leaves trying to understand where all this is going. And what we’re gonna do when we get there!
Together along with the rest of the dynamic BITS team they’ve created a horror film festival that is not only fun but that serves the Canadian independent film community. Any sort of endeavor that supports or facilitate the growth of creators, artists and independent filmmakers I’m down like I’m brown.
The 2018 film festival runs Thursday November 22nd until Tuesday November 27 at The Royal Cinema in Toronto! Tickets and screenings times are online…for movie recommendations press play and listen.
