A few months back I talked to Jason Hehir, The Last Dance director. His latest doc is Return of the King: The Fall and Rise of Elvis Presley (s’on Netflix). The doc is mostly centered around Elvis’ scintillating ‘68 Comeback Special. (That special is truly special.)
The ‘68 Comeback Special concludes with Elvis singing If I Can Dream.
Turn this mother up. This exhilarating performance is more moving than U-Haul.
It randomly popped into my head last night (the DJ was dropping Top 40 classics and hip hop so I was mostly (in the) present as 2024 slipped away.).
A non-gospel gospel song for 2025 while we impatiently wait for jetpacks and moon colony vacations we were promised.
If I Can Dream…may as well, I ain’t gonna do anything else today.
