Morning Tea: White Trash Thor Is A Maverick

Posted on April 18, 2022September 18, 2023 By Sammy Younan No Comments on Morning Tea: White Trash Thor Is A Maverick

The Batman!

White Trash Thor!

Top Gun! Brew a strong tea: yo!

The First Yo of The Day.

“The first rule of being a ninja is, “Do no harm.” Unless you mean to do harm. Then do lots of harm.”

~ Splinter (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles)

Thor Goes All 80s White Trash…

As for today’s cover image: Thor’s weird hair…that braid or whatever makes him look like one of those white people who went to an an inclusive resort in Jamaica and came back all “ethnic.” Island-Thor. (Is White Trash Thor the MCU’s attempt to cash in on HBO Max’s Peacemaker money/market? It’s a weird White Trash trend.)

Thor: Love and Thunder is out on July 8. The trailer…such as it is; is below.

I honestly don’t know if I can pay for this. Right now I’m leaning toward it’s a Disney+ release.

Hockey Meets Pop Culture…Really??

Rare NHL Pop Culture News: How Marshawn Lynch and Macklemore came to own a piece of the Seattle Kraken.

Fascinating!!

What is the ROI for NHL (minority) ownership?

I understood the value of Jay-Z’s Nets (NBA) and heard Bill Maher discuss being a minority owner of the Mets (MLB) but can ya make good money owning a hockey team?

What kinds of opportunities can this generate; wealth aside?

Let’s see where this goes!

NBA Playoffs 2022: Scottie Barnes Goes Down

It’s surreal Philadelphia went quiet when Scottie Barnes went down; a city not known for emotional or spite restraint.

Meanwhile Toronto roared in mad ugly delight when Kevin Durant went down because that made it easier to win and keep that worthless inferiority complex at bay for a day or two.

Cowardly. Gutless.

Woj Says: “X-rays negative on Scottie Barnes’ left ankle — MRI tomorrow, source tells ESPN.” I ain’t a doctor but this ain’t good. Raptors can still win without Barnes but he does make it easier.

Scottie Barnes, Gary Trent Jr. and Thaddeus Young are listed as doubtful for Game 2 against the Sixers.

They ain’t gonna play. Barnes may be done for the series. That’s my position.

Charles Barkley expects Toronto Raptors to get swept now; Shaq said it before the series started. I’m not sold on that…yet. Let’s see in Game 2 tonight. #BallorFall

#CouchWorthy: The Batman on HBO Max

Here’s why Marvel Studios turned Hulk and Thor into beefy punchlines.

More than Thor: Love and Thunder they also did Mr. Knight dirty too. #Rude

The Batman’s Opening Scene…for now DC Films gives us the dark while the MCU is a lark. #SoRude

Sammy Is Getting A Limited Series For True

“The candy man is coming to Hulu. The streamer has ordered eight episodes of a limited series about Sammy Davis, Jr. from Lee Daniels and 20th Television. It’s based on the Wil Haygood book In Black and White: The Life of Sammy Davis, Jr.”

Sigh. Hulu’s Sammy Davis Jr. is literally a “Limited” Series…which makes it apt for sure. How can viewers trust it?

Was the PBS special the most recent Sammy doc? He deserves more docs: Sammy Davis Jr. needs a Last Dance. Not this.

Skip The Trailer; I’m 100% Out.

#TrailerAlert:Top Gun 2: We’re All Mavericks

“You won’t believe the training each actor had to go through. Go behind the scenes now and see the action come to life in Top Gun: Maverick – Only in theatres May 27.”

Tom Cruise has certainly lived up to the Maverick name when it comes to intense filmmaking; here he is on brand yet again. (Having a brand makes it so much easier to market your movies and spark conversations.)

The under water training looks so fun! I’d hit that if it was an amusement ride. Well…long as it doesn’t go up my nose.

As for the rest: what ya want a cookie??! You’re actors…you’re paid to learn how to fight, lose/gain weight, shave your hair etc.

This is the basic level of commitment; like memorizing your lines.

This is your job. It’s always weird when actors hustle for recognition for doing the bare minimum.

This doesn’t make me any more convinced to see Top Gun 2; I’m good thanks. However it is exciting for all future film projects: let’s figure out how to shoot stuff better. All this money, all this tech, all these resources…lets make better movies. Yes, please!

#TrailerAlert: Thor: Love and Thunder

Yeezus Thor: Love and Thunder looks so bad; as dirty as what Moon Knight did to Mr. Knight. That’s many things but it’s not Thor. Marvel is determined to embrace the light and the humour, if you want to accept this as humour while DC wants (and probably should) go all dark.

Eternals was dull and pointless, Moon Knight is a struggle and Ms. Marvel holds zero appeal. This next MCU phase is a struggle. I’m in for Doctor Strange 2: Nerd Prayers Up for that.

Thor: Love and Thunder comes out on July 8:

Lisa Simpson: “They can’t seriously expect us to swallow that tripe.”

Principle Skinner: “Now as a special treat, courtesy of our friends at the meat council, please help yourselves to this tripe!”

#SetTheVCR…PSA: Tom Brady’s Man in The Arena – Episode 10

TSN is re-running Man in the Arena starting April 26. Check the TV Guide for dates/channels.

They only have Episodes 1-9; as news comes today ESPN+ is adding Episode 10 (The Tampa Bay season/victory) on April 25th.

Oh so it’ll take time for it to appear on TSN. That Episode 7…wow!!! So good; soul good.

That’s for Canadian viewers. For Americans y’all can watch Episodes 1-9 on Hulu or Disney+ since the corporate TV bundles means unlike Ghostbusters it’s safe to cross “the stream…ers.”

And yes! Episode 10 is directed by Gotham Chopra: woot!!

April 25 | 11 p.m. | ESPN+
