Morning Tea: Arsenio Hall’s Last Dance With A Mask

Posted on April 19, 2022April 25, 2022 By Sammy Younan No Comments on Morning Tea: Arsenio Hall’s Last Dance With A Mask

Arsenio Hall!

Nike!

The Last Dance! Brew a strong tea: yo!

The First Yo of The Day.

“I just love asking questions. I love people. It’s in my DNA. I’m cursed – and blessed.”

~ Larry King

The Orville Makes A Discovery As It Explores New Horizons…

As for today’s cover image: Because Star Trek: Discovery was basically Enterprise 2.0 I resoundingly rejected it.

I’m not investing in the humble beginnings of Trek; especially Pre-Kirk Trek. Try Harder: Never Again.

So The Orville (especially that remarkable second season!) filled in the Star Trek hole in my heart. Even the poster is better than most pre-Kirk seasons. And bonus news?

Disney+ Canada tweeted out: “Returning to duty, at last. #TheOrville: New Horizons starts streaming June 2 on #DisneyPlus.” Which is the first Canadian confirmation we’ve had about the new show since it moved from Fox to Hulu. About my Pre-Kirk issues and Star Trek…read on!

Pitch Me A Pitch Clock

“Pitch clock shaving 20 minutes off minor league games while scoring nearly same; stage set for MLB introduction in 2023.”

The premise that MLB games with a pitch clock will reduce game lengths which’ll attract younger viewers is gross. Younger viewers are dumb; they lack continuity and context. They’re the worst viewers/fans to attract; economics aside.

Star Trek goes after em all the time: how many TV shows and movies pre-date Captain Kirk or hell restated the whole universe to free up younger viewers from the “burden” of continuity?

Nah mah: hit the bricks. Do The Work. Know the history it doesn’t matter if it’s baseball or Star Trek. Court smarter viewers, not younger viewers. Build a foundation on intelligence not intransigence. #BallorFall

NBA 2022 MVP: Is Not Devin Booker??

So…why is Devin Booker not the NBA’s MVP?? Visual evidence: “Devin Booker can score from anywhere.” Coupled with winning 64 games this season. Did he play enough games to qualify for the award?

I rest my case. “You’re out of order, I’m out of order, this whole courts out of order!” #BallorFall

#CouchWorthy: The Last Dance

Two years ago today, The Last Dance made its debut and like Jordan himself; reset The Gold Standard.

“When people see this, they’re gonna say, “Well, he wasn’t really a nice guy. He may have been a tyrant.” Well, that’s YOU, because YOU never won anything.”

It’s a major red flag when the first thing a person says about Michael Jordan is he’s an “asshole.” That’s totally about you; not him. #GOAT #BallorFall

MJ didn't hold back 🐐

Just Do It…Well Not If It’s A Biopic

Matt Damon will play Nike exec Sonny Vaccarro (really??) and Ben Affleck will play Nike co-founder Phil Knight in a movie about Nike’s efforts to sign Michael Jordan to a shoe contract in the mid-’80s. Oh the suspense! Will Jordan sign?? Spoiler Alerts…am I right?

They’ll co-write the script and produce together, while Affleck will direct. Considering the righteous ire Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty has generated: here’s Kareem’s well written thoughts on the subject.

And now: Jerry West Demands Retraction for ‘Deliberately False’ Portrayal in HBO’s ‘Winning Time.’ I hope lots more Real Life People sue HBO over Winning Time! Even if it HBO settles it should cut dramatically into their profits.

Ya gotta make documentaries (see Last Dance above?); there’s a reckless irresponsibility with biopics. From the filmmakers but also the (stupid) viewers. So this is good!

Show Me A Trailer; I’m From In; Not All The Way Out.

Who Was The Masked Man?!

I totally understand why news the TSA will no longer enforce the travel mask mandate would generate jubilant cheers.

It’s gotta be a welcome relief for the airline staff who were tasked with enforcing mask mandates; that was so mean to deputize em.

Can airplanes naturally adapt to cleaning the air or doing the UV thing we know works? Isn’t that logical?

It never made sense: you social distance in the airport lounge but get shoehorned into an airplane. Where’s the logic?

Truly a lot of the pandemic mandates we tolerated rarely made sense like wear a mask to be seated at a restaurant but then eat for 2 hours. How is that logical? Oh and make sure you wear your mask to go pee but take it off to eat again.

If the mask messaging was clear; consistent and completely rational it would have made all virus matters much easier.

"On a plane you have to have the spirit that we are all in this together," says @FlyingWithSara. "We do not take a position on extending the mask mandate…it's split…imagine people who have been on front lines wearing a mask for 14, 15, 16 hours and having to enforce it." pic.twitter.com/NfV4SqZdB6

#SetTheVCR: Corrective Measures

“Meet The World’s Most Dangerous Supervillains.” Ugh it already sounds corny.

Corrective Measures is a Tubi Original which is a terrifying phrase; that’s rarely a hallmark of quality. Before it was a Tubi Original Corrective Measures is a graphic novel; I dunno by who (it doesn’t matter anymore) and now it’s been adapted into a movie with Michael Rooker and Bruce Willis. See what I mean by not being a hallmark of quality??

It looks like Shawshank Redemption meets Suicide Squad. “Get busy living or get busy cheezing it up!” Friday April 29…and yes it’s for free. But oh you’ll pay for it.

#SetTheVCR…PSA: The Arsenio Hall Show

So…starting May 2nd welcome back the return of The Arsenio Hall Show (this time on YouTube). Yes I’m telling you this in 2022.

Netflix Is A Joke Fest is the first ever live Netflix comedy festival running from April 28 – May 8. So many of those performing comics will be Arsenio’s guests. Oh. Fresh. That has potential right? The Arsenio Hall Show (on YouTube) is Coming To America on May 2nd.

*LOUD BARK* Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival is bringing back Arsenio! Live from Roosevelt Theater in L.A. from May 2nd to May 5th (and ALSO on our YouTube each night!) @ArsenioHall pic.twitter.com/UpgXys7X6x
