#CouchWorthy: Teen Titans Spotlight On

Posted on January 14, 2019September 25, 2023 By Sammy Younan

Are you at work?! Sigh.

Why did you show up to work if Titans isn’t finished?!

Titans is based on the comics from back in the day? I was never a Titans fan but I gave it a shot…which is why I am writing and sharing a handful of highlights.

-Titans is so Toronto…Joker gets capped right beside my office: OH SNAP! That’s also my City Hall Library…LOL! I saw them setting up the shot on June 1, 2018 when I asked on Twitter: “Does #Gotham shoot in #Toronto? Behind the #EatonCentre is the Central Bank of Gotham…fairly big set going on for a night shoot. Couldn’t find craft services though…”

Having never watched Gotham I didn’t know where it’s shot.

(I’m writing this on what according to Titans is the mean streets of Gotham. Heh. Their Toronto as Gotham was better/meaner than Suicide Squad‘s Gotham (also shot here). I dunno which building they used for the Arkham Asylum exterior but they nailed it…that was well chosen. I tipped my hat to the location dude. Toronto is so not Gotham…Keystone City for true; Metropolis if it’s Sunny.)

-And! Witness The Fitness: Minka Kelly is in Titans. Yo. Though going blonde is a tough sell much like her being able to handle her business in fight scenes. Minka Kelly’s more book club than Fight Club.

-Q: Yo in Titans Episode 3: where’s that roller rink?! Hamilton?? That looks TIGHT.  I so wanna get my skating jam on. (And do they really have the Twilight Zone pinball…that one and the Indiana Jones are such amazing games. So distracting when they shoot productions here: focus!)

-There’s a shot in one of the episodes…where some of Batman’s criminals have been killed (in Arkham Asylum!) and in the hallway is a murdered Ventriloquist and…the mob outfit wearing dummy (complete with a tommy gun!!). It’s like 10 seconds but oh snap…this show is not playing because the Ventriloquist never goes out. (If I was an actor or an extra on that set I woulda stole that dummy prop hard!!)

–Titans is frustrating in that…that tone and that violence and those swears is what Constantine shoulda been…that’s already built into the comics. Based on the comics Titans shoulda been on NBC instead. Like does Walking Dead work on AMC?

Titans starts off strong but it falters towards the end but I really dug it. Thankfully the studio/producers/somebody in charge cut it to 11…it was originally 12 episodes. I’m good at 11.

As it faded it became like a married couple that stops having sex and basically becomes roommates: like…why are we still here and doing this?

Overall it was a surprise…as I am not a comics Titans fan…though I’ve read many of the comics. Raven is finally (finally!) interesting and Beast Boy is finally (finally!) tolerable.

Anyways I hadda wrap up Titans as Deadly Class drops this week. Then following that is Umbrella Academy…so you if haven’t finished Titans if you like came into work…you need to speed things up…this isn’t the Leg Up Program!

Streaming tv shows is the new stress.
