Spider-Man Does Whatever An Icon Does: If you dig The Toys That Made Us or The Movies That Made Us you’ll probably enjoy the Icons Unearthed series by Vice.
Same concept: the pop culture that made us, basically.
Narrated by Yuri Lowenthal, Icons Unearthed: Spider-Man is a 6-part docuseries that goes behind the scenes of the Spider-Man movie franchise.
(“We’re taking a glimpse into Spider-Man’s journey to the big screen with new stories from cast, crew & experts.” Experts?? There’s no such thing as a pop culture expert. I know a lot, history too but that don’t make an expert.).
My curiosity is better understanding how Sony has mismanaged this franchise.
Star Wars has struggled lately, so has the MCU though Kevin Feige’s track record is generally solid. These are not easy movies to make. You can’t just IP freely, you know?
Icons Unearthed: Spider-Man features interviews with John Dykstra, Don Burgess, Todd McFarlane, Yair Landau, Vic Armstrong, C. Thomas Howell, Debbie Berman, Leigh Folsom Boyd and Dan Lebenthal.
Programming Note: In November Crave added Icons Unearthed: Batman, Icons Unearthed: Star Wars, Icons Unearthed: Harry Potter and Icons Unearthed: Marvel.
I do wanna check out Icons Unearthed: Marvel. You can #SetTheVCR for all of em; here’s a full episode of the Marvel series.
Sammy Says: Tell me how we got here. Provide nuance and lots of history. Please and thank you.
