My Summer Lair Chapter #124: Did You Hear The One About A Classical Pianist Who Became A Comedian?
One of the misunderstood aspects of stand-up comedy is that it is a craft.
It is a slow chiseling away until the joke is refined and ready for a comedy album or a comedy special. The illusion is that people just get up on stage and be funny but just as a writer will go through several edits and drafts to ensure what he is saying is clear and concise so too will a stand-up comic go through a handful of mindful iterations.
The craft is as much a skill as the comedy itself.
So it’s fascinating to hear comic Myles Anderson openly discuss his craft. For someone who just released Myles From Home his debut album he’s already comfortable with doing the work; comfortable with the demands of the medium and fully aware of how to improve.
It’s inspiring to be around somebody like that because they know what they have to do and how to do it. This interview was a lot of fun and a lot of jokes: I’m glad I caught him at the “beginning” of his career with his debut album.
Like a solid joke premise I am curious to see where he goes from here…
