My Summer Lair Chapter #183: How Well Do You Know The Science Of The MCU?
For this episode I bravely put on pants and left My Summer Lair to visit the Yorkdale Shopping Centre for the Canadian Premier of Marvel Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N.: The Experience.
You know what Marvel is and of course you know what the Avengers are however S.T.A.T.I.O.N. stands for the Scientific Training And Tactical Intelligence Operative Network. Oh yes.
This is an interactive experience where you as a recruit train using the best Shield and Avengers science and technology to be prepared to defend the earth from a planetary attack. I mean Hawkeye is a regular dude, a talented Shield operative and he’s rolling with em; so…why can’t you?
There are original props and costumes straight from the popular MCU movies including Thor’s hammer in the Thor Observatory. I couldn’t pick it up, I wasn’t worthy. (To quote Wayne’s World: I’m not worthy. Whatever.)
I really enjoyed Iron Man’s Hall of Armour and Captain America’s shield. You can also check out Black Panther’s costume…the detail on it are incredible. Outstanding work.
Where Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. shines is presenting the cutting-edge science behind the movies: it’s like a Marvel science fair. You’ll check out Bruce Banner’s lab which reveals the green effects of gamma radiation on his brain; you wouldn’t like him when he’s angry. Thankfully you get to be virtually outfitted in the Hulkbuster and try to take him down. That’s one of my favorite demonstrations; lots of sweet ruckus busting stuff.
All the the quirky physics of a universe where people can fly and there are super soldier serums are detailed. For Marvel movies to effectively work the Universe needs a set of physics: science as sound as a pound. This is what Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. smoothly reveals…all that superhero science.
Think the Ontario Science Center set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Despite my setback failing to pick up Thor’s mighty hammer Mjolnir this whole spectacle is tons of fun. Fans of the MCU movies should consider Avengers S.T.A.T.I.O.N. as #PantsWorthy.
Even if you know all these details it’s a fantastic environment because it makes it all real. You are physically immersed in this Marvelous world. And if you succeed in your training well how cool is it that you can defend the earth from a planetary attack?
I spoke to the manager guest experience Mark Fraser-Davidson who happens to have a dog named Loki. I can see why Mark got the job . He’s got all the inside dirt about this spectacle.
Even if I do kick off the conversation with a classic yet corny question…if you could have any superpower what power would it be?
Here is the Toronto Star’s video walkthrough the exhibition:
