050 | Jeff Kopas (Blood Honey)

My Summer Lair Chapter #50: What Is Blood Honey?

When Jeff Kopas showed up to the Pacific Junction Hotel bar for his Blood Honey interview he was worried about his parking. He wasn’t sure if he used the Green P app to pay for the correct spot. So I went with him on a walk to check up on his parking/car. I wish we’d recorded our discussion on that brief walk.

In this interview you’ll hear us talk about “the horror genre” because it is a legitimate marketing aspect. However what’s so interesting is the responses he was getting from consumers of blogs and websites that posted the Blood Honey trailer labelled as horror and how they differed from similar sites who classified the movie as a psychological thriller.

It’s 2017 but it appears genre still has marketing value…still has impact on a movie going public and the decisions they make on what to see or not see. At least for horror movie fans. (Music I’d argue is moot…record stores should make everybody’s life easier and file music alphabetically.)

It was fascinating to talk to Jeff about indie cinema and to hear the struggles but also the successes; Jeff is a bright and insightful fellow.

Jeff Kopas & Sammy Younan

So…Blood Honey!
The film follows Jenibel Heath (Grimes-Beech) on her return to her family’s secluded island lodge to help her siblings care for their dying father, 10 years after the mysterious suicide of her mother. Set to inherit the bulk of the family’s estate, Jenibel learns of a horrific plot against her and finds herself stuck in a life-threatening nightmare, where she must struggle to survive.

Starring Shenae Grimes-Beech, Gil Bellows, Kenneth Mitchell, Don McKellar, Morgan Kelly, Scott McCord, Matt Gordon, Natalie Brown, Rosemary Dunsmore, Michael Hanrahan, Ellen-Ray Hennessy, Ava Preston, Luke McMillan, Krystal Hope Nausbaum.
