My Summer Lair Chapter #85: Did You See Bill Gates When You Were On The Microsoft Seattle Campus?
This is a first: this My Summer Lair episode was recorded on the Microsoft campus in Seattle…inside a treehouse! What, yo! And people think it’s crazy I typically record inside a bar.
Microsoft built treehouses for their employees to work out of…that’s crazy cool. Now I wanna record all my interviews in treehouses. I’m a changed man…which really is the point of this show.
I dig talking to talented individuals like Dave Brown (a creative director at Microsoft) because I don’t believe in unicorns. This idea that I’m the only one…I maybe weird and I maybe quirky (sometimes those labels were not positively applied!) and I may even think or create differently but I don’t believe I’m the only one. I’m not in high school anymore. Why would I be so arrogant to believe I’m the only one? Really My Summer Lair is an attempt to prove none of us are unicorns but also more importantly to form a community based on shared connection and powerful passions.
I met Dave at FITC who along with Taj Ried delivered a fascinating talk called Creative Problem Solving. You’ll hear bits of that talk as Dave and I talk…especially as he describes how he got from New York City to Seattle and Microsoft. We cover Nikes and fresh kicks, Tribe Called Quest and fresh music, New York City hustle and a fresh grandpa and oh so much more. So grateful to Dave to take some time out of his busy workday to talk and share.
Oh and these amazing photos are taken by Culture Snap Photography aka Henry VanderSpek. Check out his eye arresting work while you listen to this episode.
Now…who else can I interview in a treehouse?
