My Summer Lair Chapter #26: When I Say Magic…What Is The First Image That Comes Into Your Mind?
Now…if I say magicians…what’s the first thing that pops into your head? Be honest!
As a magic nerd (I enjoy magic…I can’t perform it…though I’ve been known to make ladies disappear if that counts) I understand some of the stereotypes associated with magicians vs the typical conceptions associated with magic. And as we all know: stereotypes are time savers.
To debunk those stereotypes…to reveal the old man behind the wizard is an enthralling magic documentary Magicians: Life in the Impossible. Currently screening at Hot Docs 2016 I’m elated the directors visited My Summer Lair to converse about magic, magicians, skepticism and…plastic hands. Can’t fool me: I know how magic is done. (Not really…I do have wild theories like everybody else).
Magicians: Life in the Impossible follows 4 magicians in various stages of their career (think of it like Hoop Dreams but with magicians):
Brian Gillis…Johnny Carson’s favourite close-up magician and a regular on The Tonight Show

This is a freshtastic doc and I so enjoyed my conversation with the directors. Fine…ok, I’ll say it: this visit to My Summer Lair was magical. There: I live to give.
