My Summer Lair Chapter #279: What’s A PodCamp?
A slightly different My Summer Lair episode.
Meet Heidy M. the podcast host and writer of Hye’s Musings an Arts & Culture website based in Toronto. Like me via My Summer Lair she happily shares books and movies and all kinds of fantastic arts happenings including theatre.
I met up with her at PodCamp which ran from February 23 – 25, 2024.
This year PodCamp was held in the George Brown College’s School of Media and Performing Arts campus on Richmond Street. (Literally next door to the George Street Diner. So happy to have lunch there during PodCamp, it’d been a while.)
The 411: “PodCamp Toronto is a free, two-day event known as an “unconference”, that’s all about sharing knowledge and passion for digital media. All perspectives are welcome, and we have regular attendees ranging from brand-new podcasting hobbyists to seasoned digital marketers.”
So for this unique My Summer Lair episode I’m joined by Heidy M. and we unpack our PodCamp highlights and experiences. Like for both of us a PodCamp Highlight was Marco Timpano, host of The Insomnia Project and Eat & Drink with Ali Hassan.
Marco was a fiery ball of sarcastic energy, eagerly sharing stories and tips. He’s exactly the speaker you want at podcamp. He clearly wants people to podcast well.. If you’re gonna do this gig, do it good. Appreciate the time and attention listers are giving you. Bless em with goodness, like a sonic pope.
Marco Timpano wrote 25 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started My Podcast a title butchered in the episode. My bad. See? Podcast well. Check that book out if you wanna grow and podcast good. Dude’s fantastic and as you’ll hear Heidy M. and I had a blast with him.
We also touch upon AI (Artificial intelligence) which for the podcast industry has been so beneficial. Every industry is gonna have their own AI struggles.
It was an outstanding two days…just connecting with podcasts, hearing what works…forecasting trends and eating lunch at the George Street Diner.
