Girth Radio Presents…
Alright let’s get into it:
1) My Philosophy: I don’t drink the kool-aid this is the golden era of television…there’s a lot more tv options for true but most of it is not golden.
2) My Legacy: I dropped Smallville around the second or third episode, same with Arrow. Shield…barely lasted the first episode. Jessica Jones got stuck at episode 5, probably won’t go back. Haven’t checked out Flash (though the bits I’ve seen already put it ahead of Arrow).
All this to say Legends of Tomorrow has an uphill climb. It premieres tonight at 8:00pm on CW.
I am a sucker for time travel, casting Arthur Darvill (Doctor Who‘s Rory Williams) as Rip Hunter is a well done like my steak and this has mucho ruckus potential: time travel, alternative timelines, alternative dimensions, rifts in the space-time continuum etc. there is an entire sci-fi playground.
My earnest hope is for strong imaginative writing; the hallmark of outstanding sci-fi…not the traditionally lazy writing that tends to mar television: transcend the medium, yo. That it’s on CW probably means my hope is misplaced…I guess I should expect angst as character development. McDonalds can McCafé all they want it doesn’t mean it’s gourmet.
I’m in for tonight…I want to be surprised, I want to be elated, I want to enjoy the sweet sweet ruckus.
2 Wonderings
i) I wonder if Marvel’s enjoying their Netflix creative freedom …and if DC who have to crank out their shows on the CW (with the obvious censorship limits on storytelling) feel hampered?
B) I wonder about Booster Gold…when do you think he’ll appear?
