Yearbook Ivana Santilli (Late Night Light) My Summer Lair

My Summer Lair Chapter #240: What Happens When You Let Ivana Santilli Nerd Out?

Programming Note: This is a MSL Yearbook Episode. A few years back I used to record In Session With… in a bar in downtown Toronto. The Pacific Junction Hotel bar which is sadly no longer with us. Sometimes bands would come in and play, sometimes they’d come in just to talk and hang out. From In Session With… I graduated to My Summer Lair and we’re having lots of fun: chatting with dope people doing dope things. Still…and occasionally I’m going to use this My Summer Lair space to present a classic In Session With… episode…like reminiscing with an open Yearbook about the days and times that were. This episode is from February 4, 2016.

Hah! I’ve been following and enjoying Ivana Santilli since her 1999 album Brown.

Brown and her subsequent releases foreshadowed the coming music revolution, not Napster rather how diverse our music collections would become as we voyaged deeper into the internet. We take it for granted how we have rock songs sitting beside drum and bass songs mingling with hip hop songs in our broad music collections.

We’ve transcended genres and uprooted identities. (Just like Ivana Santilli!)

Our tastes have flourished as we indulged our musical appetites online. Clearly something enticing the warm safety of commercial radio couldn’t (wouldn’t?) offer us. With Brown Ivana Santilli mixed and fused sounds and genres creating an intoxicating sonic manifesto.

Clearly she is a music nerd; what I did not expect was that her nerdery would extend to other aspects of her life. Sweet Surprise!

I’ve seen and read interviews since the release of Brown and never caught that nerdy side. Figured the best thing to do was encourage it and see where we end up.

As you’ll hear in this conversation she does take me to some strange “how did we get here?” places. Outstanding fun…much like her latest release Late Night Light.

If you enjoy love and wonder how technology impacts modern romance this album Late Night Light is for you.

It also works if you just want to get a groove on…soul good; so good.
