My Summer Lair Chapter #197: Who Would You Rather Hang Out With: Franken Berry or Count Chocula?
In Craig Pryce’s latest feature The Marijuana Conspiracy one of the characters poses the following compelling question: Who would you rather hang out with: Franken Berry or Count Chocula? Great question!
“The Marijuana Conspiracy is based on a true story that took place in 1972 over 98 days. It studies the scientific, social and physical effects of Marijuana use during an all-female group study. Pryce optioned this story from investigative reporter Diana Zlomislic, who acts as story consultant.”
Yeah: the Canadian government was fearful of marijuana and its effects of course on the economy and productivity. So to alleviate their fears on the effects of weed the Canadian government organized a study: sequestering 5 women and giving them 2 fatties every night at 8pm.
Seriously? I’ll never understand how we react to pop culture with fear. The war on drugs has been absurd and while we tend to contextualize it in racist terms; The Marijuana Conspiracy urges us to recognize the sexist aspects of that ugly endless war.
The feature film stars Marie Ward (Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark), Morgan Kohan (Star Trek Discovery), Gregory Calderone (Heroes Reborn) Luke Bilyk (DC’s Legend of Tomorrow) and Paulina Nunes (The Boys).
So what happened? And why does the title include the word Conspiracy? And I thought Canadians were nice but this…this isn’t nice.
Let’s get into all of this with writer and director Craig Pryce (who you might know directed the quirky movie: Revenge of the Radioactive Reporter. Yo.)
