My fidelity is wholly to creators who do Good Work. Quality is more important than trends.
The Work must be good. Creators are under no obligation to be good.
We learned this from James Gunn. Remember that embarrassing and utterly foolish moral stance over Tweets?
It nearly cost us Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. (Plus why would I signal boost strangers taking this moral stance? There’s no benefit in elevating their status, reaffirming their warped perspective and promoting hypocrisy. Yeah I’m not doing any of that.)
Creators give us books and movies and TV shows.
Fans…especially the zealots can (and should) be replaced. All they issue is hashtags and hypocrisy. Just worthless.
Millar’s valid Tweet-response (above) was prompted the tsunami of stupid that was unleashed by his recent podcast where The Comic Palace store owner was the guest. Among those who commented on the discussion was Cyberfrog creator Ethan Van Sciver, who praised his industry colleague, “Terrific job, Mark. Thank you.” Gasp! The horror!!
According to their dumb perspective that’s bad…imagine if you did a politics podcast and Tucker Carlson praised your work. Right? Many fools are lazy…that’s why labels and categories are easy.
But in real life you should be engaging different people; listening to different perspectives. Only a child reaches for consensus; rather the goal is broader more nuanced thinking.
Far more importantly Mark Millar’s Netflix comics have been disproportionate: Prodigy and The Magic Order are fantastic rock stars while Space Bandits is like the younger brother of a Backstreet Boy. It’s terrible.
On December 5th he announced he was moving the entire Millarworld/ Netflix catalogue over to Dark Horse Comics.
So let’s see how the comic book party unfolds at Dark Horse Comics. I’m IN: Let’s Go! Make more comics, please and thank you.
And while we wait…
What’s up with the upcoming Millarworld Netflix productions? I mean we got Jupiter’s Legacy…for 1 Season.
Turns out Prodigy a remarkable comic (so good!) is sadly it’s being written by the chumps who wrote The Eternals. Awful movie. So no hope there. Here’s some handy status updates on those Millarworld adaptations at Netflix.
