Hidden Gem: Kid Rock “Don’t Tell Me How To Live”

Posted on November 19, 2021 By Sammy Younan No Comments on Hidden Gem: Kid Rock “Don’t Tell Me How To Live”

Sigh: new Kid Rock a video that opens with him wearing a classic Bad Boys Pistons t-shirt (Oh Yes!) and issuing his manifesto:

“Fuck all you hoes!

Detroit ’til I die, motherfucker!

Talkin’ all that bullshit!

Ain’t nobody gonna tell me how to live!”

It’s not a surprise party; this is exactly what you’d expect from Kid Rock. It extends the classic middle finger sonic movement: Limp Bizkit, Insane Clown Posse etc.

(What is a surprise is this song features Monster Truck a Hamilton band. Well this is one way to get that Nickelback money! Secure the bag.) Anyways…

Same Swagger; Same Sound.

Though Kid Rock’s fatuous swashbuckling instantly recalls Eminem’s The Real Slim Shady:

And there’s a million of us just like me

Who cuss like me, who just don’t give a fuck like me

Who dress like me; walk, talk and act like me

And just might be the next best thing, but not quite me

‘Cause I’m Slim Shady, yes, I’m the real Shady

All you other Slim Shadys are just imitating

So won’t the real Slim Shady please stand up

Please stand up, please stand up?

Yup. If you’re hankering for Detroit swagger hit up Em. Or I guess Kid Rock? Here he comes off like a loser superhero in a Marvel movie that needs to be spoon-fed to the audience by declaring himself a “badass.” Nobody needs to validate Batman; including himself.

What else did you expect from a dude whose last few albums were called: Rebel Soul, Rock n Roll Jesus, Cocky and of course Born Free. If you’re outraged that’s straight up clickbait and hamming it up on social media. When Kid Rock tells you who he is…believe him.
