#SetTheVCR: July 27 – August 02, 2026

Posted on July 27, 2026August 9, 2026 By Sammy Younan No Comments on #SetTheVCR: July 27 – August 02, 2026

TV You can be Furious about these TV Recommendations from The Devil’s Mouth. Or you can just #SetTheVCR.

Monday, July 27

The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 3 (Anytime / AMC+)

In season three, Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) finally put aside their differences to build the first thriving community in Manhattan since the apocalypse, but when chaos in the city begins to arise, they are forced to question: have they learned from their old wounds, or will their dark past spell doom for the entire city?
~~

SAMMY SUGGESTION: FURIOUS: SEASON 1 (ANYTIME / HULU & DISNEY+ CANADA)

From creator and executive producer Elizabeth Meriwether, Furious follows an FBI agent, Alice Black (Emmy Rossum) on the hunt for a mysterious and calculating female serial killer. Both walk their own paths toward justice, and as their lives start to intertwine, the line between right and wrong begins to blur.
~~~
Elizabeth Meriwether has a New Girl! (She created and wrote New Girl the supa dupa Zooey Deschanel sitcom.) Eh, yeah I dunno if I’m sold with Emmy Rossum going full Mindhunter. Hot Girl Mindhunter is a mixed results genre, especially on TV: True Detective: Night Country (Jodie Foster), Amanda Seyfried’s Long Bright River, To Catch a Killer (Shailene Woodley), Alexandra Daddario’s Night Hunter and who was the chick in Clarice? (Cancelled after 1 season.) So I dunno. I’m kinda curious and kinda bored. More boring? “Alice digs into the killer’s hidden past to anticipate her next move. The series explores a twisted game of cat-and-mouse where the boundary between seeking justice and pursuing personal vengeance completely deteriorates.” See? Kinda curious and kinda bored. I’m not Furious the serial killer is a woman, decent twist. I’m just not convinced the other elements mean this series is killing it. I guess the only way to fully understand the dark behaviour is to watch it. Programming Note: Furious premieres on July 27 with three episodes. Then it goes weekly with new episodes streaming Mondays; with the season finale on August 31.
Tuesday, July 28
K. Trevor Wilson: Too Awesome, Too Fast (Anytime / Prime Video)
Letterkenny star K. Trevor Wilson delivers his signature deadpan wit and unmistakable voice in a Hilarious 40-minute stand-up special, sharing the “too awesome, too fast” trajectory that led to his unexpected Type 2 diabetes diagnosis after years of treating food “like a dare.”
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: ANTIDIVA: THE CAROLE POPE CONFESSIONS (ANYTIME / CBC GEM)
Carole Pope shattered taboos with raw, unapologetic music, and defiant sexuality. Antidiva tells the story of a queer rock icon reclaiming her rightful place in music history.
~~~

You know what makes Harry Styles so… so boring? It’s ignorance. People talk about his style as if Bowie didn’t exist or did it all far better. And there was also Madonna and countless others. So when Harry Styles is praised, that means the speaker is either ignorant or dumb. Or young, too, I suppose. That’s why we have documentaries like this… as an ignorance dam. (Or better, to damn the ignorant.) Ditto for Chappell Roan and the insufferable Peaches pushing the boundaries of performance art, blah blah. Antidiva lives up to its name: it’s an unvarnished rock doc that skips the typical polished, worshipful celebrity bio in favour of something much more honest, witty, and real. It tracks Pope’s rise as the frontwoman of Rough Trade—the band that famously gave Canadian radio a “rude awakening” by singing unapologetically about same-sex desire decades before it was safe, much less cool—while showing her present-day hustle living a modest, apartment-dwelling life in Los Angeles. Commentary comes from k.d. lang, Sebastian Bach, Strombo, and Rufus Wainwright. Expect a masterclass in queer resistance and musical rebellion, but don’t expect a wealthy rockstar mansion tour. After all, Confessions are the real luxury. Programming Note: The documentary premieres on television via the Documentary Channel on Sunday, July 19, 2026, at 9:00 p.m., followed by its official streaming release on CBC Gem on Friday, July 24, 2026.

Wednesday, July 29

The Devil Wears Prada 2 (Anytime / Hulu & Disney+)

Miranda Priestly navigates her career amid the decline of traditional magazine publishing. She faces off against Emily Charlton, her one-time assistant, now a high-powered executive for a luxury group, with advertising dollars that Priestly desperately needs.
~~

SAMMY SUGGESTION: THE ARK: SEASON 3 (10 P.M. / SYFY & CRAVE)

Season three of The Ark begins after the crew of Ark 1 have established their new colony, Homebase 1. Captain Garnet and some of her brave team return to space in the hopes of finding other lost Earth survivors. The rest of her team remain on Homebase 1 to explore their new world but an unsettling discovery makes everyone wonder what secrets this new planet is hiding and how safe it really is.
~~~
What’s a good gift for a housewarming party for…a planetary colony on a brand new planet? Season 3 begins after the crew of Ark One have established their new colony, Homebase 1 on a newly discovered world. Showrunners Dean Devlin and Jonathan Glassner return to pilot this Syfy series and…yup: humanity’s perilous mission to survive remains fractured. Meanwhile, Captain Garnet and her team return to space in Ark One with the previous hope of finding other lost Earth survivors. (As you might recall from Season 1: “A hundred years in the future, a vast spacecraft known as Ark One is shuttling a complement of would-be colonists away from a devastated Earth to a new home…”) This is no peaceful moon base all-inclusive holiday. Expect more intra-human political strife and hidden sabotage, along with the monumental, first-ever discovery of actual alien life. When it comes to Discovery Star Trek sucks at Strange New Worlds. So I’ll be back for Season 3 of The Ark. I dig that the arc of this season is split: spaceship danger of the week in space and setting up a colony on an alien planet; which we rarely see on TV. Boom! That’s just good “SYFY.” The Ark of the universe is long, but it bends toward Star Trek. Programming Note: the first two seasons of The Ark are available to watch on Fandango at Home and on Crave.
Thursday, July 30
Lollapalooza Livestream Day 1 (Anytime / Disney+ and Hulu)
Skip the crowds and all the camping…and grab the best #CoucgWorthy seat in the house as Day 1 delivers electric live sets, artist interviews, and unfiltered main-stage energy straight from Chicago’s premier music celebration featuring: The Smashing Pumpkins (making a massive hometown return), The XX (marking a highly anticipated reunion), The Neighbourhood and much more.
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: THE DEVIL’S MOUTH (ANYTIME / PRIME VIDEO)
Five friends explore The Devil’s Mouth cave system in Thailand for one last adventure before life in the real world begins. But they soon discover that something is hunting them under the water…fast, silent, and deadly. In the suffocating darkness, trust erodes, panic spreads and every wrong turn becomes a fight for survival.
~~~

I don’t understand the value of The Devil’s Mouth. They’re all losers: Kathryn Newton, Lana Condor, Nico Hiraga, Gavin Casalegno, Tommi Rose and Tayme Thapthimthong. The audience is just supposed to sit around and wait for them to be eaten one by one?! Okay. And then what? Let’s run a deadpool on all these chumps. I assume Lana Condor will survive, she’s put her Devil’s Mouth To All The Boys she’s Loved Before…and I expect Kathryn Newton will perish. or vice versa? Shall we give the devil his streaming due?

Friday, July 31

The Drama (Anytime / HBO Max & Paramount+ Canada)

A couple faces a crisis in the days leading up to their wedding when unexpected revelations derail what one of them thought they knew about the other. Zendaya, Robert Pattinson?! Hell No. Hard Pass.
~~

SAMMY SUGGESTION: NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE (ANYTIME / HULU & CRAVE)

When their plan to book a show at the Rivoli goes horribly wrong, Matt and Jay accidentally travel back to the year 2008.
~~~
Well, that’s dumb, eh? Hulu is releasing Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie in July. And you’d think one of the most popular Canadian movies would like…you know stream on Canada Day (July 1st!). Easy marketing, right? Nope. (Crave got it right…they’ve been streaming this since July 1st.) As for the movie? I did not see it at TIFF though I saw the RV. As such I’ll let Edgar Wright handle this TV recommendation. This past February, Dude tweeted: “I wish to add to the euphoric praise for Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie, an insanely charming goof of a film. I think I enjoyed it even more as a) I lived on King and Spadina in 2009 and b) I saw The Hangover at the Scotiabank Theatre on opening weekend.” So there ya go…Edgar Wright praise…that’s some sweet Hot Fuzz.
Saturday, August 01
Batman: Caped Crusader: Season 2 (Anytime / Prime Video)
Batman: Caped Crusader is a hard-boiled animated series that follows the fearsome vigilante in his early years. Forged in the fire of tragedy, billionaire Bruce Wayne becomes something both more and less than human—the Batman. Night after night, against overwhelming odds, he wages his relentless one-man war on crime. As for Season 2? The Joker. Yes.
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: KILLER CLOWN (8:00 P.M. / LIFETIME)
Decades after witnessing her mother’s brutal murder at the hands of the Killer Clown, Elizabeth Helmer remains haunted by the crime that shattered her childhood. When she begins investigating the long-unsolved cold case, Elizabeth becomes the target of a terrifying copycat stalker, forcing her to confront painful memories she has spent a lifetime trying to escape. As she searches for answers alongside her father Reed and husband Dan, Elizabeth uncovers a tangled web of family betrayal and long-buried secrets. As she closes in on the truth, Elizabeth must separate fact from manipulation and fight to survive before history repeats itself.
~~~

Lifetime movies are notoriously campy, melodramatic, and “so bad they’re good,” (according to their fans…) so expecting a cinematic masterpiece or an existential dread-inducing horror movie like It is a bit much. So the spectrum is somewhere between Homey D. Clown and Pennywise. It will likely strike a balance between suburban tension and classic Lifetime camp. Don’t expect gory slasher violence, but do expect plenty of eerie, slow-motion shots of a person in a bright clown suit standing under a streetlamp or looking through a window. Or expect sci-fi as this Killer Klown is from Earth, not space.

Sunday, August 02

The Librarians: The Next Chapter: Season 2 (9:00 p.m. / TNT)

Decades after witnessing her mother’s brutal murder at the hands of the Killer Clown, Elizabeth Helmer remains haunted by the crime that shattered her childhood. When she begins investigating the long-unsolved cold case, Elizabeth becomes the target of a terrifying copycat stalker, forcing her to confront painful memories she has spent a lifetime trying to escape. As she searches for answers alongside her father Reed and husband Dan, Elizabeth uncovers a tangled web of family betrayal and long-buried secrets. As she closes in on the truth, Elizabeth must separate fact from manipulation and fight to survive before history repeats itself.
~~

SAMMY SUGGESTION: DECADES IN SPORTS (9:00 P.M. / CNN)

Across six episodes, Decades in Sports explores the defining moments, athletes and cultural shifts that shaped sports over the past six decades, from the television revolution and Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s, to the transformative social and political changes of the 1970s, to the impact of social media on today’s biggest sports stars. Along the way, each decade reveals the unforgettable athletes, championship moments and cultural milestones that transformed sports, and America.
