You’d expect a documentary about New York City booksellers to be about chasing down a…I dunno say a first edition Charles Dickens or perhaps a Hoop Dreams style doc about wanting to become a rare book dealer. It’s neither. Instead what director D.W. Young offers is a sci-fi tangent via Henry Wessells whose book is A Conversation Larger Than the Universe: Readings in Science Fiction and the Fantastic (whew!) as well as a motivated search for early hip hop documents and magazines.

It’s fascinating Fools choose to celebrate Bowie’s birth day…the day (January 8) his life began even though 2 days later (January 10) his life concludes. Fools a spirited collaboration between vocalist Nikki Ashworth and multi-instrumentalist Neil Gray are Bowie fans. I’ve no doubt his passing impacts them deeply…as it does all of us (present tense).
Bowie: January 8, 1947 – January 10, 2016
Far too early and way too raw to begin articulating Bowie’s infectious value and courageous contributions. I dunno that anybody can: his life and his work defy orderly summary. He was and is a large stone thrown into planet Earth and the size of the ripple effect is staggering: I’ve always had affection for the weirdos.
