#SetTheVCR for Sunday, January 13 to Saturday, January 19, 2019

Posted on January 13, 2019December 31, 2023 By Sammy Younan

It’s cold outside so…no need to put on pants. Let’s stay inside, brew some tea and see what’s on tv.

Sunday, January 13
Eighth Grade, Amazon
True Detective: Season 3 (9 p.m.) HBO
Dead by Dawn (9 p.m.) Nat Geo Wild
American Style (9 p.m.) CNN
Valley of the Boom: Miniseries (9 p.m.) Nat Geo

A million dollars isn’t cool. You know what’s cool? A billion dollars. I enjoyed Social Network as did many others so of course the it was inevitable that similar stories would be mined from real life and told in spectacular Hollywood fashion. This 6 episode miniseries covers the 1990s tech boom and bust. Emphasis on bust.

Monday, January 14
The Passage: Season 1 (9 p.m.) Fox

The Passage debuting tonight is Fox’s latest sci-fi quirky things are not right tv show.

Based on the novels by Justin Cronin, the drama “focuses on Project Noah, a secret medical facility where scientists are experimenting with a dangerous virus that could lead to the cure for all disease, but also carries the potential to wipe out the human race.”

Eh…sounds a bit tv like but what makes it worth a look is the individuals involved.

Behind the camera Ridley Scott and Matt Reeves are the executive producers (and Matt Reeves as the Planet of the Apes guy knows about the potential to wipe out the human race…). So that helps.

In front of the camera the cast includes Mark-Paul Gosselaar, Saniyya Sidney, Jamie McShane and Emmanuelle Chriqui (who is charming and lovely!).

So some potential…potential for good and potential for cheeze:

Tuesday, January 15
Roswell, New Mexico (9 p.m.) The CW
Drunk History: Season 6 (10 p.m.) Comedy Central
Revenger, Netflix
Sebastian Maniscalco: Stay Hungry, Netflix

Wednesday, January 16
Wayne: Season 1, YouTube Premium
Deadly Class: Season 1 (10 p.m.) Syfy
Schitt’s Creek: Season 5 (10 p.m.) Pop

Thursday, January 17
Star Trek: Discovery: Season 2 CBS All Access
A Discovery of Witches: Season 1 Sundance Now
Matthew Goode who unfortunately doesn’t always live up to his last name stars in A Discovery of Witches.

I’m 100% in because…witches and vampires form an alliance. WHAT!

Friday, January 18
Real Time With Bill Maher: Season 17 (10 p.m.) HBO
Howie Mandel Presents Howie Mandel at the Howie Mandel Comedy Club (10 p.m.) Showtime
Marvel’s The Punisher: Season 2, Netflix
Trigger Warning With Killer Mike: Season 1, Netflix
Fyre: The Greatest Party That Never Happened, Netflix
IO, Netflix
Carmen Sandiego, Netflix
Close, Netflix

Saturday, January 19
Fahrenheit 11/9, Amazon
Smiley Face Killers: The Hunt for Justice (7 p.m.) Oxygen
Escaping the Madhouse: The Nellie Bly Story (8 p.m.) Lifetime
Brexit (9 p.m.) HBO

Benedict Cumberbatch did a Brexit movie! It’s not a documentary but I just wanna get a sense of what happened. Also this just looks good:
