My Summer Lair Chapter #260: What Do You Geek Out Over?
Fan Expo 2023 unfolded Thursday, August 24 to Sunday, August 27 in downtown Toronto.
Fan Expo Canada is an annual fan convention covering sci-fi, horror, gaming, anime, comic books etc.
It’s a Canadian Comic-Con and the third largest nerdfest in North America.
I attended from Thursday to Sunday; as a roaming reporter for AM 640 Toronto.
My roaming reporter duties was to attend the con, conduct some interviews and report to the studio the things I’d had seen.
Celebrities who appeared include Charlie Cox (Daredevil), Logic (Man of The Year), Christina Ricci (Black Snake Moan), John Bernthal (The Walking Dead & Punisher) and Zachary Levi (Shazam!).
Plus two classic 80s supa stars: Ralph Macchio (wax on, wax off) and Anthony Michael Hall (visiting his Canadian girlfriend that he met at Niagara Falls?).
(Anthony Michael Hall’s career is wild. Yes all the finest 80s movies, The Dead Zone…the longest running Stephen King TV series, he was in Nolan’s The Dark Knight and he was murdered by Michael Myers. That’s oddly impressive.)
Even though this was supposed to be a one-off 640 Toronto was elated to invite me back to the studio to nerd it up some more on Sunday, August 27.
I fused the two radio segments with host Pat Perdue into 1 podcast episode, and it is attached.
Due to my nervousness I messed up slightly.
Two Corrections:
It’s the 501st Legion (I left out the st part…).
The Canadian Podcast Awards. (I left out the ian part.)
My mistakes were consistent. I regret the errors and I will carry my shame into the next life.
This Fan Expo was 100% good clean fun thank to Pat and Caleb. I’m only sad we did not attend Fan Expo together. Next year, perhaps?
