The One Minute Pause Journal
by John Eldredge
Non-Fiction & Handle Your Business / Thomas Nelson
Published: January 4, 2022
“John Eldredge has seen and felt the toll that constant busyness has, and he created the wildly successful One Minute Pause app that 180,000 users have a described as a “rescue” during difficult times. Now, in The One Minute Pause Journal, he goes a step further and helps readers begin a daily habit of intentional stopping and reflecting that has the potential to change the course of their lives.”
~~~~
A fantastic way to kick off 2022: “John Eldredge guides readers through a simple daily practice that will help them find the connection to God and small moments of peace during busy days that they crave.” If you’re trapped in a fire you want to be rescued by firemen. If you’re stuck in a crime like you’re being mugged you want to be rescued by policemen. So…who rescues you from busyness?
The Effort
by Claire Holroyde
Fiction & Sweet Sci-Fi / Grand Central Publishing
Published: January 11, 2022
“When dark comet UD3 was spotted near Jupiter’s orbit, its existence was largely ignored. But to individuals who knew better—scientists like Benjamin Schwartz, manager of NASA’s Center for Near-Earth Object Studies—the threat this eight-kilometer comet posed to the survival of the human race was unthinkable. The 150-million-year reign of the dinosaurs ended when an asteroid impact generated more than a billion times the energy of an atomic bomb. What would happen to Earth’s seven billion inhabitants if a similar event were allowed to occur?”
This Armageddon novel about a classic extinction level event will leave a Deep Impact on your psyche. I read it last year in hardcover. As the dark comet draws closer; society breaks down and resorts to cannibalism. Yo that escalated quickly; so dark. I dig it though (the novel; not cannibalism.). It’s out today in paperback: highly recommended sci-fi reading.
The Rise promises to provide an insight into Kobe that no other analysis has. Read an Excerpt.
I dunno if I can “Rise” to the occasion and get through this Kobe book: “This is more than a basketball book. This is an exploration of the identity and making of an icon and the effect of his development on those around him—the essence of the man before he truly became a man.”
Chasing History: A Kid in the Newsroom
by Carl Bernstein
Non-Fiction & Journalism / Henry Holt
Published: January 11, 2022
Chasing History is an extraordinary memoir of life on the cusp of adulthood for a determined young man with a dogged commitment to the truth. Read an Excerpt.
~~~~
“The coauthor of All the President’s Men and pioneer of investigative journalism, recalls his beginnings as an audacious teenage newspaper reporter in the nation’s capital—a winning tale of scrapes, gumshoeing, and American bedlam.” I mean Carl Bernstein is fantastic and this would be an amazing read; but honestly? I’m sharing this because the publisher’s description includes the classic word: gumshoeing. Yo that’s tight.
Happy publication day to CHASING HISTORY by @carlbernstein!⭐

I have a feeling this book is gonna be difficult for a number of people: “We’ve all been told that thinking rationally is the key to success. But at the cutting edge of science, researchers are discovering that feeling is every bit as important as thinking.”
