Magic, Science-Fiction and Cinema…flourish because they all have their own society of nerds. Today 3 Hot Docs honors those 3 mediums…if you’re a nerd today is a good day. Damn It Feels Good To Be A Gangsta.
Magicians: Life in the Impossible
3:45 PM Isabel Bader Theatre
The screening on Saturday night sold out! And amazingly they celebrated that success at Pacific Junction Hotel bar where Girth Radio broadcasts. It was a fabulous evening of wine and magic and much laughter. 3 of the magicians in the doc are in Toronto for the festival so expect a couple of tricks following the screening.
De Palma
6:15 PM TIFF Bell Lightbox 1
De Palma gave us “Say hello to my little friend.” The excellent Batter Up Untoucables scene. And I can’t talk about Carrie without night terrors. A vital contributor to American New Wave (those glory days are over, huh?) this doc recognizes De Palma’s evocative contributions to cinema…and our pop culture.
How to Build a Time Machine
6:30 PM Isabel Bader Theatre
From the Hot Docs description: “These cinematic visuals entwine with Mallett’s compelling explanation of how science fiction might not be that far-fetched after all.” I attended a Time Traveler Convetion in 2005 so if there is a possibility Time Machines could be real I’m so ready. Let’s Do This.
