New Book Alert: January 20-24, 2020

Posted on January 25, 2020 By Sammy Younan No Comments on New Book Alert: January 20-24, 2020

My weekly collection of new and notable books for your pop culture pleasure and edification: #ReadMoreTweetLess.

The Art of War by Sun Tzu: A New Translation by Michael Nylan (W. W. Norton & Company; War on sale January 7, 2020): A 2020 must read: if you do business, if you are in the arts: if you are alive. #NewBookAlert for January 20, 2020.

“[T]he real art of war is not to have to go to war.”@nytimesbooks reviews Michael Nylan’s “insightful and alert” new translation of THE ART OF WAR. Available January 7. https://t.co/dbSXIGWiwFhttps://t.co/4JBQl31NA6

Agency by William Gibson (Berkley Publishing; Sci-fi on sale January 21, 2020): Today’s a rare and wonderful day: brand new William Gibson. Agency is a prequel/sequel to his previous book The Peripheral. This time Hillary Clinton won the 2016 Election. Crazy! #NewBookAlert for January 21, 2020.

Listen to the @washingtonpost and read AGENCY this month! On sale 1/21! @GreatDismal https://t.co/2wRuYD7T33 pic.twitter.com/NYIIbBgma6

Gwendy’s Magic Feather by Richard Chizmar (Gallery Books; on sale January 21, 2020): Another sequel! Gwendy’s Button Box was written by Stephen King (#GOAT) and Richard Chizmar and it came out on May 16, 2017. Now Gwendy’s Magic Feather sees an adult Gwendy summoned to Castle Rock after the reappearance of the button box. Oh Oh. And this time only Richard answered the call to return to Castle Rock. #NewBookAlert for January 22, 2020.

Trade paperback & eBook from @GalleryBooks — AVAILABLE IN BOOKSTORES EVERYWHERE ON TUESDAY, JAN 21 — and, yes, you can request a signed bookplate for your paperback. Just email your name/address to cdancepub@aol.com

American Dirt by Jeanine Cummins (Flatiron Books; on sale January 21, 2020): Stephen King’s book recommendations are often uneven. Though I am grateful he is actively promoting and curating a wide variety of pop culture from comic books to tv shows to movies I just don’t always trust his taste. So proceed carefully and cautiously with this one. I’m passing it on because King passed it on. #NewBookAlert for January 23, 2020.

The most anticipated book of 2020 is here. AMERICAN DIRT is a rare exploration into the inner hearts of people willing to sacrifice everything for a glimmer of hope. @StephenKing has called this book “an extraordinary piece of work”. Blue Notes: Jazz, Literature, and Loneliness by Sam V. H. Reese (LSU Press; Jazz on sale September 11, 2019): “Jazz can be uplifting, stimulating, sensual and spiritual. Yet when writers turn to this form of music, they almost always imagine it in terms of loneliness.” A jazzy new book by Sam V. H. Reese this is Blue Notes. #NewBookAlert for January 24, 2020.

#Bluenotes has arrived! Thank you so much, @lsupress, for making such a beautiful book #jazz #literature #loneliness pic.twitter.com/aqvOhmhlCo
