#SetTheVCR: February 28-March 6, 2022

Posted on February 28, 2022May 8, 2022 By Sammy Younan No Comments on #SetTheVCR: February 28-March 6, 2022

Well that’s it for the MCU TV shows on Netflix. I mean you’ve had since 2015 to watch them, Netflix and Marvel gave you ample time. Still if you were distracted because of all these constant TV recommendations well no worries, they’ll live on in Disney+. When the Infinity Stones close a door they open a window.

Monday, February 28

Ragdoll: Season 1 (10:00 p.m. / AMC)

From the executive producers of Killing Eve comes a new psychological thriller, where a freshly demoted DS returns to the field–only to have his dark past follow him. His dear friend and boss, Baxter, and an American ingenue, Edmunds, fall with him into the grotesque–and brilliant–game of the ‘Ragdoll’ Killer. Watch new episodes every Thursday.

SAMMY SUGGESTION: MCU TV SHOWS ON NETFLIX
~~~
Smell Ya Later MCU TV Shows on Netflix! What began on April 10, 2015 with Daredevil concluded on June 14, 2019 with the third season of Jessica Jones. All the MCU shows are leaving Netflix their original home to eventually live on Disney+. (Daredevil and his Amazing Friends will be Born Again on Disney+ Canada on March 16th; no legit confirmation on when they’ll manifest on American Disney+.) So today is your final day to watch 3 seasons of Daredevil, 3 seasons of Jessica Jones, 2 seasons of Luke Cage, 2 seasons of Iron Fist, 2 seasons of The Punisher and 1 season of The Defenders. All this is due to Netflix’s license for these series ending and Disney regaining the rights. Plus at the time Disney+ was not a thing; now it is so it makes sense to house all the MCU shows together. As for Charlie Cox who stars as lawyer Matt Murdock, nerds recently saw him in Spider-Man: No Way Home. I wouldn’t be surprised if he appears in the upcoming She-Hulk series since Jennifer Walters is a “a lawyer who specializes in cases involving superhumans.” Expect that series to drop mid-2022.
Tuesday, March 1
Fright Night: 1985 (Anytime / Hulu)
A teenager discovers that the newcomer in his neighborhood is a vampire, so he turns to an actor in a television horror show for help dealing with the undead.
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: THE LARRY DAVID STORY: PART 1 & 2 (9 P.M. / HBO & CRAVE)
Follow Larry David’s rise to comedy stardom
~~~

Larry David shares his thoughts on everything from metaphysics to parenthood. It’s pretty much what you’d expect from him: his fantastic TV worked has earned a 2 part Last Dance with friend/director Larry Charles. Both parts will air tonight; back to back.

Wednesday, March 2

Lift Like A Girl (Anytime / CBC Gem)

With the guidance of her relentless coach, a teen weightlifter emerges from a scrappy training camp in Egypt to compete at the championship level.
~~

SAMMY SUGGESTION: JEEN-YUHS: A KANYE TRILOGY (ANYTIME / NETFLIX)

The lives of an emerging superstar and a filmmaker intertwine in this intense, intimate docuseries charting Kanye West’s career, filmed over two decades.
~~~
Act 3 of the Kanye West documentary concludes his Last Dance: it’s called Awakening. Amidst the fantastic creative moments there are frustrating moments where the docuseries falls into Wikipedia style history…this is what happened; with no current commentary from Kanye. This final act is all about context not commentary. It draws us closer to the Kanye West most of us know (well really…think we know.) And what happens next? In Ye we trust?
Thursday, March 3
Star Trek: Picard: Season 2 (Anytime / Paramount+ (US), Crave (CA), & Amazon Prime (Int’l))
Jean-Luc Picard and his companions are trapped in the 21st century when reality is broken by Q as part of the ultimate trial for Picard. They must race against time to save the future of the galaxy.
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: MOBY DOC (ANYTIME /HULU)
A surrealist documentary about trailblazing electronic musician and animal rights activist Moby.
~~~

I know sometimes people have Moby feelings but really this is an inspiring doc worthy of a sky punch because We Are All Made of Stars! Directed by Rob Gordon Bralver this doc covers Moby’s Natural Blues as he attempts to understand Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad? Despite some Extreme Ways he continues to Run On Feeling So Real as he explores his creativity In This World. Lift Me Up is what it did for me and it will do the same for you One of These Mornings. So Go to Hulu and enjoy this Beautiful documentary. It’s like watching God Moving Over the Face of the Waters.

Friday, March 4

Lucy and Desi (Anytime / Prime Video)

From director Amy Poehler, Lucy and Desi explores the unlikely partnership and enduring legacy of one of the most prolific power couples in entertainment history. Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz risked everything to be together.
~~

SAMMY SUGGESTION: FRESH (ANYTIME / HULU & DISNEY+ CANADA)

The horrors of modern dating seen through one young woman’s defiant battle to survive her new boyfriend’s unusual appetites.
~~~
Fresh is the story of a young woman (Girl from War of the Worlds) who finds out that her new boyfriend (Boy from the MCU) has some very unusual cravings when it comes to food. If you’re married, work on your marriage. That’s what is out there; they’ll eat you alive…
Saturday, March 5
The Tourist: Limited Series (Anytime / HBO Max & Prime Video Canada)
When a man wakes up in the Australian outback with no memory, he must use the few clues he has to discover his identity before his past.
~~
SAMMY SUGGESTION: F9: THE FAST SAGA (ANYTIME / HBO & CRAVE)
Dom Toretto is living the quiet life off the grid with Letty and his son, but they know that danger always lurks just over the peaceful horizon. This time, that threat forces Dom to confront the sins of his past to save those he loves most. His crew soon comes together to stop a world-shattering plot by the most skilled assassin and high-performance driver they’ve ever encountered — Dom’s forsaken brother.
~~~

A covid delayed release meant not many were able to enjoy the latest Fast and Furious in the cinema as it was meant to be seen. This is the 9th movie so much like Marvel movies which are over 20 deep you know what to expect and you’re either in or you’re out. This chapter fleshes out Dom Toretto’s family introducing us to John Cena as Jakob Toretto the estranged brother. Kurt Russell as Mr. Nobody returns, as does Charlize Theron as Cipher; Chris Morgan who has written all the Fasts since Tokyo Drift sadly did not return. He was missed. As for the ruckus I really dug the magnet scene. Yup magnets plus Fast cars. We’re racing towards the end…a tenth installment is set to be released on May 19, 2023. Surreal: we’ve been with this family since 2001. We’ve seen so much and done so much since then.

“It’s the only way we know to go
Squad up, never roll alone
And we gon’ ride on forever
We ride out together.”

Sunday, March 6

Roadrunner: A Film About Anthony Bourdain (9:00 p.m. / CNN)

Documentary about the life of the cultural explorer, writer, and chef Anthony Bourdain.
~~

SAMMY SUGGESTION: THE CIRCUS: SEASON 7  (8 P.M. / SHOWTIME & CRAVE)

THE CIRCUS: INSIDE THE GREATEST POLITICAL SHOW ON EARTH returns for a 7th season. This documentary series pulls back the curtain on the Trump era of presidential politics, revealing the stories behind the headlines.
~~~
As President Donald Trump was an incredible gift for mass media: ratings, sales and clicks. It was an amazing run. But is it over? The hosts of The Circus continue to investigate the fractures in the American political landscape, despite a new administration. The oddest part of electing Biden is the flawed premise of going back to normal. There’s no such thing as “back to normal.” Celebrating dude’s inauguration as normal is like closing a wedding with “and they lived happily ever after.” What? How? Like: yo. So if we can’t go “back” to normal, how do we go ahead? With Trump lurking in the shadows, Putin making boss moves and Biden’s State of the Union speech on Tuesday night and the impending midterm elections well this aptly named Circus will start strong.
